A little background on each place this trip takes you to.
Fort Kochi is Kerala's most walkable old town, its colonial-era streets home to the iconic Chinese fishing nets, the historic Mattancherry and Jew Town quarters, and a lively contemporary arts scene.
These giant cantilevered nets along Fort Kochi's shoreline, believed to have been introduced by Chinese traders centuries ago, are lowered into the water and hauled up by hand or counterweight to bring in the day's catch. Watching a haul at sunset is one of the most photographed moments in Fort Kochi.
Mattancherry and the adjoining Jew Town are Fort Kochi's old trading quarter, lined with spice warehouses, antique shops and the historic Paradesi Synagogue, the best stretch for a slow walk through the port's layered history.
Marine Drive is Kochi's waterfront promenade, a popular evening stretch for a walk along the harbour with views of passing ships and the Kochi skyline across the water.
Cherai Beach, a short drive from Kochi on Vypin Island, is a wide stretch of golden sand backed by coconut groves, with the backwaters running close behind the shoreline, an easy add-on to a Kochi city visit.
